Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Accent Training Podcast, a podcast where I teach you to harness the sounds of the American accent and develop crystal clear American English pronunciation. My name is Pat. I'm an accent coach. I'm from Canada. I live in Mexico in a remote desert location. And I'm here to tell you that the word October, October is an extremely valuable word, which I recommend you begin practicing right now because we have 31 days of October ahead of us at the time of this recording. And those are 31 opportunities to master the pronunciation of the month, October. So how do we pronounce this? It begins with a short O sound, you know, about the short, Oh, I've been talking about it quite a bit lately. Ah, ah, Now in the word October, we're using a short O, but we're not rising the tone of it. We're actually having it kind of soft so that we can contrast it with a rising toe peeking the voice up to stress, the middle of the word. October. You see, I speak almost every single episode about the contrast of syllable stress in spoke English. And when we're pronouncing October, we have that weak shorto in the beginning, uh, a stressed teno in the middle toe. And remember to make that 10. So we've got two movements. We go, uh, and then we bring the corners of the lips inwards. Ooh, oh oh, Octo octo contrasting the syllable, stress rising your tone in the toe part, and then we drop it flat on the ending with A B E r, A B, followed by a schwa r burr burr. Now, I've spoken about er and r word endings in the past. As a matter of fact, I've spoken about all of these sounds in the past, the Shorto, the Longo, and the er sounder. Now, I'm not shaming you if you haven't listened to those episodes yet, but the fact is, if you want to master the word October before the end of this month, October, then you should know that that goal is not out of your reach because all of the links to those episodes are in the description below. Now, if you're someone who's confident with the sounds of the word, October, then I applaud you and I challenge you to push yourself to say that word as much as possible today, focusing on the stress of each syllable, October Week, strong, weak October. Keep moving forward learning the American accent, and have a good one, folks.
